Rhizomes and roots.

Function:
Black cohosh contains constituents (eg: formononetin) that have an estrogen like effect on the body, which makes it useful for a wide range of menopausal and menstrual problems.

Uses:
* Traditionally the native Americans used black cohosh for ‘women’s problems’, rheumatism and snakebite.
* More recently black cohosh has been used for arthritis, asthma, bronchitis, fever, insomnia, whooping cough, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other circulatory disorders, also for menstrual and menopause symptoms and to assist with childbirth. Black cohosh has a relaxing effect and can relieve muscle spasms and pain.

Guidelines:
Use according to label instructions.

Interactions:
* Do not use if you have a chronic disease.
* Do not use if pregnant, until the birth is imminent and only then under the guidance of a qualified health care professional.
* Do not use if lactating.
* Do not use if taking estrogen therapy.
* High doses may cause nausea, dizziness, abdominal pain and headaches. * Do not use for periods longer than six months.
