Walk Talk – Shoes for Pronators

I weigh 250 pounds and always break down the insides of my shoes, which makes my knees hurt. Can you recommend a good walking shoe for pronators?

Look for walking shoes with exceptional support and cushioning. Go to a shoe store where an expert will wait on you, not just a clerk who doesn’t know anything about shoes.

Most of all, you need to have a good fit in addition to finding a supportive shoe. The better the fit, the less likely the inside of the shoe will break down. Remember, though, that you may have to buy shoes more often than someone who is not giving them as much wear and tear as you are. Don’t wait till they’re falling apart before you buy another pair. If you are over-pronating (your foot leans in) you may want to consider additional support in the arch, or a prescription orthotic.
