Q: For the past year and a half, I seem to be getting sick every month or so. The last time it was strep throat, and the time before that it was the common cold. I have had strep throat three times in the past 18 months. Should I be taking anything special to help combat illness?
A: The first three things to ask yourself are:
- Am I eating a whole foods/natural foods diet?
- Am I getting adequate exercise?
- Am I adequately managing my stressors?
If you answered “yes” to all of these questions, then the foundation for good health is there. You should consider adding the following supplements:
Vitamin C – 3000 mg. a day
Echinacea – liquid extract; 1 teaspoon a day
Garlic pill – 1 a day
Multiple vitamin/mineral – 3 a day
I would also advise that you see a health practitioner, have a physical exam and order the following routine blood tests: CBC (complete blood count) and a chemistry screen. These tests will rule out specific illnesses that require independent treatment.
