Ear wax buildup

If it’s so bad to clean your ears, why are there so many ear swabs out there? Can I really do damage by removing some of the wax buildup from my kids’ ears?

Ear wax buildup

Ear canals are best taken care of by nature alone. While you can clean the outer ear with a washcloth, there’s no need to swab the canal.

Ear wax is supposed to be there, and your body will naturally clear out any as needed. In some rare cases, wax can build up and actually block the entire canal. If that happens, it’s best to have a physician remove it. Although unusual, trying to remove the wax yourself can rip or tear the tympanic membrane, this is why you should not try this at home.
