Eating fish may protect you from heart disease. That news comes from a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Researchers found that one meal a week reduces the risk of fatal heart attack by more than 50 percent. They say it doesn’t matter what type of fish you eat.
This doesn’t mean that eating fish can make up for other bad habits. Researchers are careful to point out that it may not be the fish that produces the decrease in risk. It may be that people who eat fish have healthier lifestyles.
Other studies have shown that certain fish oils may reduce the danger of abnormal heartbeat in animals. Now we’re learning that the same may be true for humans.
The study looked at men only, but more research is underway to see if the health benefits of eating fish are the same for both men and women.
