Excessive facial hair

I’m a 27-year-old female with an embarrassing problem: I have an excessive amount of facial and body hair. I have had to take testosterone for cancer treatment, which my endocrinologist says causes the hair growth. Is there anything that can be done to decrease the sensitivity of hair follicles to testosterone? I don’t have any other symptoms. This is really affecting my life in an adverse way.

The herb saw palmetto has been shown to decrease the effects of testosterone on the hair follicle in some people. Although the herb’s active ingredient is unknown, studies done in Europe show that an extract from the berries appears to counteract the effects of androgens (male sex hormones).

I recommend trying saw palmetto for a minimum of three months, taking 2 caps, 2 times a day. If you don’t see results, you might also visit a dermatologist and see if they have some new options.

Perhaps it would be comforting to know that excessive hair growth is far more common than you realize. I see a number of women with the same problem.
