Function:
The active constituents in fenugreek are steroid-like compounds that help reduce the production and absorption of cholesterol. Fenugreek seeds are high in fiber and as such can reduce blood sugar levels, which is useful for diabetes. Fenugreek also contains many of the B group vitamins, iron and lecithin.

Uses:
* Traditionally fenugreek has been used for conditions such as bronchitis, sore throats, colds, kidney problems, digestive disorders, arthritis, and wounds. Fenugreek has also been used for centuries as a flavoring for food.
* More recently fenugreek has been used in the treatment of atherosclerosis, diabetes, high cholesterol, constipation, fever, asthma, sinus and lung inflammation.

Guidelines:
Fenugreek tea can be used as a gargle for sore throats, 1 tablespoon of crushed seed in 150 ml of boiling water, steeped for 10 minutes. Fenugreek can also be crushed and made into a thick paste with water and used as a poultice directly on the skin for pain. Use other extracts according to label instructions.

Interactions:
Large doses of fenugreek can cause nausea.
