Male Chicks

Farmers simply have no use of newborn male chicks at their “egg-laying hatchery.” Not only can they not lay eggs, but also male chicks have not been genetically manipulated to develop excess muscle tissue for profitable meat production.

So how are male chicks treated when they pop their little heads out of the shell, waiting to receive a warm greeting from their mothers? They certainly don’t live long enough to tell about it.

Farmers simply have no use of newborn male chicks at their “egg-laying hatchery.” Not only can they not lay eggs, but also male chicks have not been genetically manipulated to develop excess muscle tissue for profitable meat production. This leaves them with absolutely no market value whatsoever.

At birth, male chicks are picked out of the batches of newborn hens and dumped directly into garbage bags.

“They are, literally thrown away. We watch at one hatchery as ‘chicken-pullers’ weeded males from each tray and dropped them into heavy-duty plastic bags.”

It only takes a few minutes before they suffocate to death, unless they’re crushed or decapitated first. This is hardly a warm welcoming into the world.

“Over half-a-million little baby chicks are disposed of in this fashion every day of the year in the U.S.”… without ever receiving even the slightest acknowledgment that they are alive.

…unless they’re crushed or decapitated first.
