Mitral valve prolapse (MVP)

Is there a natural treatment for Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP)? If so, are there any issues I should be aware of?

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is caused by a bulging of one or more mitral leaflets into the left atrium of the heart during systole (the rhythmic contraction of the heart). This can create a murmer and/or clicking sound upon examination. Although most people do not have symptoms, those that do often experience fatigue, chest pain, shortness of breath or palpitations.

Several nutrients have been associated with MVP. Magnesium deficiency has been found to correlate with the palpitations and chest pain of MVP. Low concentrations of magnesium in white blood cells, red blood cells and urine have been observed in selected research studies. Magnesium supplementation has improved the symptoms of MVP. Coenzyme Q10 supplementation has some very encouraging results for people with symptomatic MVP. After patients took 60 mg a day for 2 months, researchers saw improvement. Remember, if you have symptoms of chest pain, palpitations or shortness of breath, be sure that the cause is MVP rather than some other cardiac abnormality.
