Is there an herbal remedy for psoriasis?
There is no one herbal remedy for psoriasis. The best self help advice I could give you would be to check out the book Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine by Michael Murray and Joseph Pizzorno (Prima Publishing). There is a chapter on psoriasis that discusses some of the causes and therapeutic considerations as well as nutritional and herbal treatments. Some of these include the use of fish oils, testing for food allergies, fumaric acid supplementation, topical uses of licorice and chamomile, as well as oral uses of goldenseal, sarsaparilla and milk thistle.
Psoriasis can be a difficult disorder to treat, as I’m sure you know. A licensed Naturopathic Physician can help you put together a comprehensive naturopathic treatment plan that will likely be more effective and thorough than one you could put together by yourself. Contact the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians for a referral in your area. Don’t be afraid to get started on it. Everything I mentioned that is covered in the book would be safe for you to try on your own.
