If you are looking for right place to spend good time in the city of Vienna :

Nightlife in the city of Vienna

With relaxed licensing laws (London take note) and some extremely swanky, well-stocked establishments, Vienna’s bar scene has improved immeasurably in recent years. Those looking for a venue or two in which to spend a Friday/Saturday night not only have plenty of choice, but the promise of a rather fun time out! On the whole prices are reasonable, despite the temptation by some city-centre bars to charge ridiculous amounts for brandy, Scotch and other spirits (meaning that you might reach your credit card limit long before your alcohol threshold).

The so called “Bermuda Triangle” of bars and pubs in Vienna is the city’s most popular draw, and stretches between Schwedenplatz, the Hohermarkt and Morzinplatz. Here you’ll find the excellent First Floor bar, as well as other popular haunts such as Krah Krah and Roter Engel.

Elsewhere, long-established favourites such as Planter’s and the American Bar continue to cut a dash with well-heeled punters, while further afield, Jenseits and B72 offer an equally enjoyable (albeit different) drinking experience!

Clubs & Bars in Vienna

Albert Bar
Albertgasse 39, 1080 Wien, Telephone: +43 1 9567114, Open: 11pm-02am Mon-Sat
The lively Albertgasse 39 is a great cocktail destination. The drinks menu blends the classic and modern, and the bar staff really know what they are doing. The interior is simply but smartly decked out with narrow legged stools and red walls.

B72
Hernalser Gürtel bogen 72, A-1080 Wien, Tel: 409 2128, U-Bahn: Alser Straße or Josefstädter Straße, Trams 44/43/J/5, Open daily: 8pm-4am
Clubs beneath railway arches – in London at least – usually scare us silly, though as it turns out, B72 is a lively, modern club with an attractive industrial sleekness, energetic tunes and a trendy clientele. Staging everything from Ragga and hiphop brass orchestras (we kid you not) to alternative acts, we think it’s among Vienna’s best bars/clubs and, as such, one of the hottest tickets in town!

First Floor
Seitenstettengasse 5, 1010 Wie, Tel: 533 7866, U-Bahn: Schwedenplatz, Open: 7pm-5am Mon-Sat, 7pm-3pm Sun, Visa and Mastercard accepted
A downtown setting, long opening hours, a great range of cocktails and lots of fish. That’s right, fish! First Floor offers a heady mix of over 100 cocktails, live jazz bands (Monday nights) and a rather cool aquarium which runs the length of the bar behind friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great fun, very sleek and reasonably priced (for a 1st district bar at least). You know a bar is serious when it’s open until 3am – on a Sunday. This gem is a Viennese institution, although it used to be known as the Mounier Bar in Kaerntner before owner Michael Satke relocated it to Seitenstettengasse. The building is a great example of modernist New Viennese architecture and the super-stylish interior.

Loos American Bar
Kärntner Durchgang 10, 1010 Vienna, Tel: 512 3283, Open: 12pm-04am daily
Anybody with an interest in architecture should already have this one on their itinerary. Designed by Adolf Loos, a pioneer of modern architecture in Vienna and quite a controversial figure in his day, this is a small but atmospheric bar. Inside it’s rather dark but not oppressively so, the walls and ceilings layered in dark marble

Tanzcafe Jenseits
Nelkengasse 3, A 1060 Wien, Tel: 587 1233, U-Bahn: Neubaugasse, Open: 9pm-4am daily
Looking every inch like a middle-class Viennese residence, Tanzcafe Jenseits, a rather pleasant late-night bar, is discreetly entered by ringing the front door bell. Inside, you’re greeted by a plush, decadent interior, with a small dance floor and inviting bar area. With a licence until 4am, it’s as good as they come. So naturally we suggest you pay a visit to this little known, but rather cool hangout!

Chill Out Lounge
Salvatorgasse 6, 1010 Wien, Austria, Tel: 535 1213, Open: 17pm-02am Mon-Sat
There’s something very homely about Vienna’s Chill Out Lounge with its red-walled décor and comfy rattan sofas. We don’t mean this is a disparaging way, far from it. This is that elusive thing, the bar were you can feel just as comfortable in as you might in your own living room.

Comida and The Red Room
Stubenring 20, 1010 Wien, Telephone: +43 1 5124024, Open: 18pm-02am Mon-Wed, 18pm-04am Thu-San
One site. Two very different spaces. Comida is a swanky restaurant-bar, elegantly furnished in blonde wood and dark leather with bold splashes of green upon the walls. The food veers towards the Hispano-Caribbean spectrum and the range of cocktails on offer is pretty darn impressive. Head downstairs and things change considerably.

Dino’s
Salzgries 19, 1010 Vienna, Telephone: 0043 1 5357230, Open: 18pm-03am Mon-Thu, 18pm-04am fri, 19pm-04am Sat, Sanday Closed
An American style cocktail bar named after the king of cocktail hour himself, Dean Martin. The place exudes rat-pack cool. The music is supplied by Sinatra and pals and the drinks are as classic as they come. The atmosphere steers well clear of the usual theme bar pit falls, this is a place you could happily spend an evening.

New York, New York
Annagasse 8, A-1010 Vienna, Tel: +43 1 513 8651, U-Bahn: Karlsplatz, Open: 5pm–2am Tue–Thu, 5pm–3am Fri, 7pm–3am Sat
Serving as the watering hole of choice for a diverse, well-heeled clientele, the original American bar in Vienna is chock full of memorabilia from the ‘Big Apple’. A large selection of cocktails, including the classics of a dry Martini, Manhattan and Side Car are expertly made, though slightly on the pricey side (however, this small drawback is easily overcome be taking advantage of the “Happy Hour” between 5pm and 7pm).

Nightflys
Dorotheergasse 14, A-1010 Vienna, Tel: +43 1 512 9979, U-Bahn: Stephansplatz, Open: 8pm–3am Mon–Thu, 8pm–4am Fri/Sat and 8pm–2am Sunday
American style bar with late hours and a handy location right in the heart of the city. The interior is comfortable and relaxing, with a large bar area and plush blue seating. Behind the bar you’ll find an extremely long list of cocktails (there are more than 250 to choose from) along with a good selection of whiskies/brandies and a whole host of lesser-known spirits at fairly reasonable prices. Well-worth considering for a pre-club drink (or two).

Halbestadt
Währinger Gürtel 144, 1090 Vienna, Telephone: +43 1 319735, Open: Mon – Closed, 19pm-02am Tue-Thu , 19pm-02am Fri-Sat
This smart but stylish bar has a very cosmopolitan atmosphere. Located in one of the Stadtbahnbögen built by Otto Wagner, the bar overlooks one of the main thoroughfares of the city. Cocktails are cool creations prepared by skilled bar tenders and the crowd is chic and agreeable. As the night progresses the smooth music keeps the place.

Onyx Bar
Haashaus, Stephansplatz, Vienna, A 1010, Telephone: +43 1 535 3969, U-Bahn: Stephansplatz, Open: 9am-2am daily
Housed in the glass-fronted “Haashaus”, the Onyx Bar is a ultra-sleek affair, both in terms of the interior, the staff (who are all rather good looking) and the extremely appetising drinks menu! During the day, it serves as a café for media, public relations and arty types who like their coffee in anything but the usual way i.e. black! Come the evening however (when the yellow onyx bar lights up) and Vienna’s VIPs and high society head for this hippest of Vienna hangouts. Oh, and did we mention the view? St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the square below look fantastic from the building’s sixth floor. In fact, it’s the best view you can get (simply because you don’t have to put up with the Haashaus from the outside).

Planter’s
Zelinkagasse 4, Vienna, Tel: +43 1 533 3393, U-Bahn: Schottenring, Open: 5pm-4am daily. All major credit cards accepted
Apparently modelled on the architecture of a colonial Indian railway station, Planter’s is one of Vienna’s best loved bars, with luxurious leather chairs, the relaxing sight of palm trees and gorgeous teak panelling all round. Cocktails and cognacs are a strength here, though rum and cigars appear most popular with the well-to-do clientele of all ages. Great service, with a strict dress code to get through the door. No baggy jeans please!

Sky Bar
Kartnerstraße 19, Vienna, A-1010, Tel: +43 1 513 1712, U-Bahn: Karlsplatz, Open: 11.30am-3am Mon-Wed, 11.30am-4am Thu-Sat, 6pm-3am Sun. All major credit cards accepted.
Situated on the upper level of the Steffl shopping centre, the Sky Bar offers gorgeous views of Kartnerstraße and Vienna beyond. Light and airy, there’s a large well-stocked circular bar, along with a cigar corner for Gordon Gecko wannabies. Great cocktails and friendly staff, though it’s by no means cheap. Oh and best to avoid the bar’s own website, due to the appalling “Sky Bar” theme tune!
