Function:
The active ingredients in skullcap contain antispasmodic, antibacterial and mild sedative properties.
Uses:
* Traditionally skullcap was used for treatment of rabies, headaches, nervous tension, insomnia, muscle tension, epilepsy, allergies, inflamed skin disorders, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and as a sedative.
* More recently it has been used for cardiovascular disease, anxiety, tension, nerves, rheumatism and muscle pain spasms and cramps.
Guidelines:
Skullcap tea can be taken up to 3 times daily, 1 – 2 teaspoons of dried herb steeped in 250 ml of boiling water for 10 minutes. Use other extracts according to label instructions.
Interactions:
Do not use skullcap during pregnancy or lactation.
