The benefits of rose hips

My father has a multi-vitamin, which contains rose hips. Through my research, I’ve only located rosemary and rose. What is rose hips and its benefits – and are there any known side effects?

There are over 100 species of rose. We’re talking about cultivated and wild roses. In the fall, when the flower petals are gone, what’s left is the fruit, which is the fleshy hip. These are picked, dried, and then crushed up or powdered and used as an herb tea or in supplements.

Rose hips are mildly stimulating to the bowels, can strengthen and tone the stomach, provide mild astringent properties, and a decent source of vitamin C. I wouldn’t have any concern about any toxicity or side effects, because of its safety profile but also because the amount in multi-vitamins is minimal.
