The pill and facial spots

I am 45 and have been on the pill for almost 25 years. Recently, I began to get dark patches on my face, which I was told were caused by estrogen. The prescription “fade cream” didn’t work very well on my very fair skin (it tinged my skin yellow). Do you have any suggestions for fading these dark spots?

Perhaps you’ve already done this, but the first thing you should do is stop taking birth control pills and start using a barrier method of contraception — such as condoms, the cervical cap and the diaphragm — until menopause.

Birth control pills suppress ovulation, and, as a result, your body has become deficient in progesterone and estrogen dominant. I would advise using one of the natural progesterone creams on the market; they usually contain at least 600 milligrams (mg) per 2-ounce tube or container. Apply 1/4 teaspoon two times a day between days 14 to 26 of your menstrual cycle. Rub the cream on the palms, inner forearms or chest, and vary the application sites. Dr. John Lee, a natural progesterone expert, sometimes suggests applying the cream to one’s face.

Birth control pills also deplete folic acid and vitamin B6, so taking a B-complex vitamin would also be advisable (although this will probably not improve your skin).

    1. Hi Patrick,

Before telling you what to use, I think is better to let you know which are the causes of these black spots. First of all, the main cause can be the excessive exposure to the sun and it is followed by other causes like sleeping habits, irregular eating or lack of food diversity – the consumption of foods and drinks are the major causes of it.

What I recommend is to use some Ayurvedic medicines, prepared by yourself. For dark spots on the skin some products form nature are the best to be used, so, take a look at the next 4 recipes:

      • Grind some almonds (4-5) and mix with 1 teaspoon of a ghee (clarified butter) and a few drops of lemon juice. Apply this mixture on a large area where the dark spots are located. Leave it there for about fifteen minutes, but don’t clean with water!
      • Use papaya juice, or mashed papaya, apply this fruit product on the affected areas.
      • Grind 2 teaspoon of sesame seeds and turmeric in a small quantity of water and apply to the dark spots (15-30 minutes).
      • From basil (tulsi) leaves and water make a paste and apply it on your black mark and let the cream work for about 15-30 minutes.
      • To remove any cream or mask from the skin, it is recommended to use some chamomile tea (infusion).

Every recipe that you will choose to use, it takes time to cure your black mark!
